ROCC Course

Our ROCC courses are conducted by Chris Rowlands over two days. Day one consists of training / tuition followed by the written exam. The practical exams are then conducted on day two (or at a later date if required by prior arrangement).

Chris Rowlands is a CAA Authorised ROCC Examiner and has been operating the A/G radio on behalf of ESFC since 2016.  Chris has a Military Background and is a current Class Rating Instructor with over 1000 instructional hours on a wide variety of aircraft types. Chris has a great desire to maintain exceptional standards within the Air to Ground Radio environment.

DAY ONE

  • Operational Procedures
  • Radio Techniques
  • R/T terminology
  • Communication techniques and Phraseology
  • Departure and arrival calls
  • Circuit calls
  • Transiting aircraft
  • Emergency phraseology
  • Written exam: 25 questions which require written answers ( sorry no multiple choice) time allowed is 1 hr. Pass mark is 75%

DAY TWO

Practical exam. This test takes the form of simulated exchanges of communication between the candidate (acting as the radio operator) and the examiner (acting as aircraft and other agencies)  covering various scenarios, all of which a ROCC operator is likely to encounter on a day to day basis.

Cost

A non-refundable deposit of £25 is payable on booking.  This will be deducted from the course fee.

2 day course including first attempt at both Exams costs £175

Any additional training and exam retakes will be charged separately.

(The above fee does not include the £37 fee payable to the CAA for the issue of the ROCC licence)
